Ireland’s Historic Homes & Houses proving popular

by Marty Carr, Tuesday 30th August 2011

Historic houses and Castles are proving popular for golf tourists and and the general tourist population alike. Based on data available from the Central Statistics Office, nearly 2.5 million tourist visits were carried out in Ireland in 2010.

While golf is the primary focus for many visitors to Ireland (it’s the second most popular activity engaged in Ireland by foreign visitors), they also enjoy sampling off-the-courses activities including museums and art galleries it seems. Apparently 1.6 million foreign visitors checked out Ireland’s museums in 2010.

Some of the famous castles associated with golf in Ireland include Dromoland Castle & Luttrellstown Castle. The historic homes are very popular across Ireland include Powerscourt, Carton House (Carton House Golf Resort), Newbridge House (close to The Island) and the oppulent Adare Manor.
