Dublin Hotels with Golf Courses
by Stephen Keane, 13th January 2011
It’s a stunning hotel in a perfect setting. Even if you don’t play golf, you’ll still love the place. There are two courses to avail of. The Palmer and the Montgomery and in case you hadn’t heard, Carton House will be hosting the Irish Open in 2013. It’s situated halfway between Leixlip and Maynooth (Check out the chapel in Maynooth if you have the opportunity – stunning!). Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links
Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links is situated in the seaside suburb of Portmarnock and has a wealth of choice when it comes to golf courses. It has a very highly respect links course on its grounds. And just a short walk away is the famed links of Portmarnock Golf Club. Portmarnock is 10-15 minutes to Dublin airport and the picturesque village of Malahide is only a 1.5mile/2.3km. Portmarnock boasts a stunning coastline with views out to Howth and the strand has a couple of nice restaurants to avail of. Castleknock Golf and Country Club
Situated very close to the city of Dublin, yet in what seems worlds away, lies Castleknock Golf and Country Club. Within a stones throw of the river Liffey, the hotel has a wealth of facilities including a leisure club which has a swimming pool. The golf course is a challenging parkland course which contains lakes and wooded spaces. In the vicinity of Castleknock is The Anglers Rest pub which is superb for live irish music plus award winning food. However, not to be ignored is the steak in the restaurant of Castleknock Golf and Country Club which is by all accounts, fantastic.
In a great location overlooking the northerly section of the Dublin coastline with a bird’s eye view of the island of Ireland’s Eye. As a budget hotel it’s a fine place to stay, easy access to Dublin city centre via bus or dart. Two golf courses – one on site and also another at Howth Golf Club which is on the peninsula and Sutton Golf Links is also within easy reach (both about 2-3km away). Howth is a quaint village with a charming and active fishing port. The harborside has an abundance of bars, restaurants and once a month, there’s a farmers market.
