The East of Ireland is known for some of the liveliest towns & cities in Ireland (Dublin, Drogheda, Arklow….) but it also contains some of Ireland’s best links & parkland golf courses. Portmarnock Golf Club is perhaps more steeped in history than any other club in Ireland, The European club is one of the most enjoyable tests of golf anywhere with The Royal Dublin and The Island both superb. Not to mention it would only be a two hour drive to Royal County Down!!!!
Furthering the East’s claim to “Ireland’s best courses”, in 2011 the Solheim Cup will be hosted at the phenomenal Killeen Castle in Meath (only 40 minutes from Dublin Airport) which is a Jack Nicklaus signature course and the event is sure to be a memorable one. And let’s not forget the K Club in picturesque Straffan which hosted the 2006 Ryder Cup. And if these trophy courses don’t suit your budget, there’s plenty of value to be found whether it’s a Golf Links or Parkland course. Corballis Golf Links lays claim to being the best value Golf Links in Ireland. It shares the same stretch of land upon which it’s more esteemed neighbour The Island occupies. Closer to the city If you fancy a short hop from the city centre, Elmgreen Golf Centre in Castleknock offers incredible facilities (driving range, pitching green, pitch and putt , 18 hole course, restaurant and showering faciliites) and you can even take a peek at the Dunsink Observatory which is situated next door.
Whatever your tastes, whatever the type of course you’d like to play, playing at one of the courses in the East of Ireland will be a richly rewarding experience.
