2002 Seve Trophy, which will be played from April 19th to 21st in 2002. This three-day event named in the honour of the legendary Spanish golfer sees the best of Great Britain and Ireland compete against the top Continental pros.

Seve Ballesteros will again captain the Continental Europe team while Colin Montgomery will once more lead Great Britain and Ireland offering the possibility of an intriguing repeat clash of 2000 when Ballesteros famously triumphed by 2 and 1 as his team scored a historic 13 - 12 victory.

A total of 26 points will be at stake in Druids Glen through an exciting series of foursomes, fourballs, greensomes and singles. Qualification for the teams began with the Spanish Open in April 2001 with a points system comparable to the existing Ryder Cup structure.

Due to the postponement of the 2001 Ryder Cup media and sponsor interest has been considerable. An indication of the global TV coverage commanded by 2000 Seve trophy is that live TV coverage was broadcast in more than 20 countries throughout the world. Druids Glen, known as the "Augusta of Europe" is no stranger to hosting such events. Only one year after opening it was honoured as the home of Irish Open 1996 - this proved so successful that it continued to hold it for four years until 1999.

On being chosen as the venue for the Seve Trophy Mr. Denis Kane, CEO Druids Glen commented: "We are extremely delighted at Druids Glen to have been chosen to host this historic first ever Seve Trophy in Ireland. It is an additional endorsement that our facility meets all the criteria as a venue for the staging of major international events. Seve Ballesteros has been loud in his praises of Druids Glen since playing in the Irish Open there and we are looking forward to welcoming him back for what truly promises to be another great golfing centrepiece for Ireland".
